Saudi Venture Capital Commits Capital To KSA-Based Khwarizmi Ventures' Capital Fund 2
The fund plans to deploy at least 50 percent of its capital in Saudi Arabia, while supporting technology and tech-enabled companies across the GCC.
Saudi Venture Capital (SVC) has injected an undisclosed investment in KSA-based Khwarizmi Ventures' Capital Fund 2, which targets seed to Series A startups across the GCC.
Established in 2018, SVC is an investment company and a subsidiary of the SME Bank, which operates under Saudi Arabia's National Development Fund. The firm invests in venture capital and private equity funds, as well as directly in startups and SMEs, with the aim of supporting access to financing across different stages of business growth.
Meanwhile, Khwarizmi Ventures, founded in 2018 by Yasser Al-Qadhi and Dr. Ibrahim Almojel, is a Saudi-based venture capital firm focused on backing early-stage technology startups across the MENA region, with investments spanning sectors including fintech, e-commerce, software, and digital services.
Under its investment strategy, the fund will allocate at least half of its capital to companies in Saudi Arabia while pursuing opportunities in technology and technology-enabled businesses across the GCC. Although the fund is sector-agnostic, it sees strong potential in areas including fintech, e-commerce, and artificial intelligence applications.
In a statement, Nora Alsarhan, Deputy CEO and CIO at SVC, said, "The investment in the venture capital fund by Khwarizmi Ventures is part of SVC's Investment in Funds Program and an implementation of its strategy related to attracting fund managers to invest in Saudi-based companies and stimulating investment for early stages."
Abdulaziz AlTurki, Managing Partner of Khwarizmi Ventures, added, “This partnership represents a shared commitment to empowering entrepreneurs and accelerating the growth of high-potential technology startups. With the support of SVC, we will continue to invest in exceptional founders, helping them build scalable companies that drive innovation, create economic value, and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as a leading hub for entrepreneurship and venture capital in the region.”
The investment forms part of SVC’s broader efforts to increase the availability of funding for startups and SMEs at different stages of development. Through investments in venture capital and private equity funds, as well as direct investments, SVC supports businesses from the pre-seed stage through to pre-IPO.
