Saudi-based artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure technology provider OmniOps has raised SAR30 million (US$8 million) in a funding round led by the US-based investment management firm GMS Capital Ventures. The investment will support the company’s efforts to scale operations, enhance research and development (R&D), and expand its AI infrastructure services.

Founded in 2024 and led by Saudi entrepreneur Mohammed Altassan, OmniOps is backed by a board of directors that includes tech advisor Zaid Farekh. The company focuses on meeting the growing demand for AI technologies in Saudi Arabia by delivering energy-efficient, cloud-native high-performance computing (HPC) clusters tailored to specific client needs.

OmniOps is also developing a compliant AI inference cluster with integrated machine learning operations (ML Ops) features. These technologies are designed to simplify AI deployment and improve operational efficiency for businesses and government entities, enabling the development of scalable infrastructure for AI projects.

On the investment, GMS Ventures said in a statement, “We are thrilled to partner with Mohammed Altassan and the world-class team of professionals that OmniOps has assembled. OmniOps is poised to become a leading Saudi Arabian AI infrastructure service provider. In addition to significant financial support, GMS Ventures will leverage its extensive experience and global network to help OmniOps solidify its leadership position within the Saudi AI ecosystem.”

The company is working with established enterprises and government organizations, including Saudi Airlines and CNTXT. It has also formed partnerships with global technology providers such as NVIDIA, Google Cloud, AMD, IBM, and Lenovo, ensuring access to advanced tools for digital transformation and operational efficiency.

This funding highlights the increasing significance of the AI sector in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes data sovereignty, privacy, and local content in areas like government, healthcare, aviation, and energy.

In an interview with Inc. Arabia, Omniops’s founder CEO Altassan shared insights on the company's technological advancements saying, “OmniOps’ sovereign AI Inference cluster is designed with advanced features to address both the unique demands of the Saudi market and global best practices. The cluster uses state-of-the-art architecture, storage, design, and networking. The software infrastructure is based on newly implemented methods to overbook GPUs, and with OmniOps R&D, we’re able to offer up to a 50 percent reduction in GPU power consumption and up to 14 times improvement in inference efficiency.”

He also said that the platform aims to simplify AI development. “With those tools in place, AI practitioners can focus solely on building and deploying their MLOps pipeline without thinking too much about orchestration or optimization. It’s all being taken care of by our software stack sitting on powerful hardware to deliver production-grade, scalable AI applications.”

Altassan also discussed his startup's role in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the Kingdom's National Strategy for Data and AI. “OmniOps is committed to becoming a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s AI ecosystem by supporting the Kingdom’s goals of becoming a global leader in data and AI technologies. Over the next five years, we aim to drive advancements in data sovereignty by providing infrastructure that ensures sensitive data is processed and stored locally, aligning with the national strategy's focus on privacy and compliance.” Altassan noted that, in doing so, it is empowering enterprises and government to confidently adopt AI, "while balancing performance, sustainability, and compliance."

The company is also focused on supporting sustainability efforts in the Kingdom with its solutions. “On the energy efficiency front, OmniOps is pioneering sustainable AI solutions with advanced technologies that reduce power consumption and carbon footprint. By leveraging deep tech research and development, we create solutions to optimize AI workloads, minimizing hardware requirements and energy consumption. These advancements make AI adoption more accessible and scalable for both enterprises and government entities alike. We aim to support the Kingdom's transformation into a knowledge-driven economy, fostering innovation across sectors such as healthcare, energy, and aviation,” he said.

When asked about the company's latest funding round he said, "Securing the funding round required a combination of a strong value proposition, proven expertise, and a clear alignment with national priorities like Vision 2030. We focused on demonstrating our unique strengths, which resonate strongly with forward-thinking investors like GMS Capital Ventures."

"Building trust was also key. We presented a solid business model, clear growth strategies, and real-world impact through client partnerships with entities like Saudi Airlines and CNTXT. Transparency and open communication with investors were fundamental throughout the process."

As for his advice to other entrepreneurs in the AI space, Altassan recommends having a clear value proposition and a strong understanding of the strategic advantage that potential investors can bring to their enterprise: “For entrepreneurs in the AI space, our advice is to focus on solving specific, impactful problems, particularly those that align with broader strategic goals in your region. Build a strong team, develop a clear vision, and always back your claims with data and results. Lastly, target investors who share your vision and can offer not just financial support but strategic value as well.”
