For much of the modern corporate era, the relationship between employers and employees followed a relatively predictable psychological contract. Companies offered stability, career progression, and long-term opportunities, while employees provided loyalty, commitment, and patience. Even when this agreement was never formally written, it shaped workplace expectations for decades and influenced how people viewed success, job security, and professional growth.

Today, however, a new generation is quietly rewriting that contract. Generation Z is entering the workforce with different assumptions about work, careers, and life priorities. Rather than automatically accepting traditional workplace expectations, many young professionals are redefining what they expect in return for their time, effort, and skills. This shift is creating confusion inside organizations, but it is also revealing how dramatically the world of work has changed.
