For years, public discussions have framed Generation Z as a workforce that lacks commitment, avoids responsibility, and rejects traditional workplace expectations. Headlines frequently focus on quiet quitting, changing career priorities, and growing dissatisfaction with corporate culture. Yet these interpretations often miss a more important reality. Gen Z is not rejecting work itself. Instead, it is questioning an outdated performance model that was built for a different economic and technological era.

This generation entered the workforce during a period shaped by rapid technological change, economic uncertainty, remote work, artificial intelligence, and shifting social expectations. Unlike previous generations, many Gen Z professionals have witnessed how productivity can be achieved in multiple ways. As a result, they are less willing to accept workplace systems that measure performance through visibility, long hours, or rigid routines rather than actual outcomes.
