Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of the M42 group, has conducted its first simultaneous robotic kidney transplant for both a donor and recipient using a single robot. This achievement was reached with the help of experts from Cleveland Clinic in the US.[1]

The procedure involved a UAE National donor and recipient, with the recipient diagnosed with end-stage renal failure. The complex surgery required coordination between two surgical teams working in separate operating rooms. The robotic system provided precise movements and control during the surgery.

The minimally invasive approach offers benefits such as reduced blood loss, smaller incisions, and faster recovery times compared to traditional open surgery.

Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the UAE's first multi-organ transplant facility, plans to expand the use of robotic technology to other procedures. The hospital has previously performed seven successful robotic-assisted donor surgeries and continues to adapt these techniques for various conditions.
