Abu Dhabi Establishes Smart, Autonomous Systems Council
The council will create plans to support activities related to smart and autonomous systems.
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has issued a resolution establishing the Smart and Autonomous Systems Council (SASC). Chaired by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the council includes key figures such as Major General Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi, Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Maryam Eid AlMheiri, and Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri.
SASC’s primary objective is to develop a strategy for the safe operation and use of smart and autonomous systems, following international best practices and coordinating with relevant entities. The council aims to attract investments to enhance Abu Dhabi’s role in smart technology.
The council will create plans to support activities related to smart and autonomous systems, including infrastructure development, and oversee implementation in collaboration with relevant agencies. SASC will also propose incentives, initiatives, and projects, suggest regulations, conduct research, form expert teams, and coordinate with federal entities as necessary to ensure effective strategy implementation across the emirate.
In January, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, issued a law establishing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC).
The AIATC is entrusted with the responsibility of devising comprehensive plans and research programs, leveraging collaborations with both local and global partners, to elevate Abu Dhabi's standing in the domains of artificial intelligence and advanced technology.
This aligns with Abu Dhabi's strategy to position itself as a global hub for investments, partnerships, and talent acquisition in the tech sector.
