This year’s GITEX holds a special place in my heart, as it marks 30 years since I first attended in 1994. That visit was also my first trip to the Middle East, where I represented Microsoft as a young Product Manager. I vividly remember showcasing my work on Microsoft Windows 3.0 and Microsoft Word 6.0, eager to share the innovation we were driving. GITEX quickly became a cornerstone event for me, not just to demonstrate Microsoft’s advancements, but also to build meaningful relationships with colleagues and friends from across the region.
Year after year, I returned to GITEX and watched Dubai transform. It wasn’t just about showcasing the latest technology; each year was an opportunity to witness Dubai’s rise as a major hub of innovation. What started as a regional tech event grew into a global stage, with Dubai emerging as a center of gravity not just for the Middle East, but for the entire world.
Today, that vision has come full circle. The United Arab Emirates has firmly established itself as a global leader in artificial intelligence, attracting billions in investment from major tech companies like Microsoft. The UAE is no longer just a player; it’s a leader in research and development, paving the way for future breakthroughs in AI and other cutting-edge technologies.
Looking back, I always had a feeling that Dubai would one day become my home. Fast forward to GITEX 2024, and I’m incredibly proud to now be part of the 7awi Media Group, surrounded by talented, forward-thinking individuals who share a passion for innovation. It’s an exciting time to be here, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for both the UAE and our team at 7awi.
