As ASPIRE Gets Set To Stage A2RL 2025 In Abu Dhabi, CEO Stephane Timpano Shares What To Expect From The World’s Largest Autonomous Car Race

As the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) gets set for its 2025 edition on November 15, 2025,  Inc. Arabia spoke with Stephane Timpano, CEO of ASPIRE, the Abu Dhabi-based organizer of the landmark event, to get a sneak peek into the world’s largest autonomous car race.

The Grand Final of this year’s A2RL happening this Saturday, which, Timpano reveals, has been 18 months in the making, shall see 11 teams from around the world aim for a US$2.25 million prize pool, while also competing at the frontier of robotics, autonomy, and artificial intelligence. “What we are doing here is actually helping advance the agenda of research in these fields,” Timpano pointed out.

The A2RL Grand Final will mark the first time that six fully autonomous racecars—run by the teams TUM, Unimore, Kinetiz, TII Racing, PoliMOVE and Constructor—compete wheel-to-wheel on track. The remaining five teams—RAPSON, Code 19, Fly Eagle, FR4IAV and TGM Grand Prix—shall participate in A2RL’s Silver Race, offering them the opportunity to push their algorithms to the limit, and cement their overall position in the standings.

Besides the obvious thrill of watching the race and watching motorsport and technology collide , Timpano noted that this year’s A2RL will also serve as a showcase of the future of mobility.  “It’s what being in a car will be like, going forward,” Timpano said. “It’s giving you a sense of the technology that will help you to be safer and also to perform better [on the road], and to get a totally different experience.”
