Former Twitter CEO Sues X Over Unpaid $20 Million in Stock
Kordestani served as Twitter’s executive chairman from 2015 to 2020.
Former Twitter CEO Omid Kordestani has filed a lawsuit against X, formerly known as Twitter, claiming that owner Elon Musk is withholding over $20 million in stock compensation. Kordestani, who served as Twitter’s executive chairman from 2015 to 2020 and remained on the board until Musk’s $44 billion acquisition, alleges that Musk is refusing to pay the majority of his compensation, which was in stock.[1]
Kordestani’s legal team argues that the company is attempting to benefit from his seven years of service without fulfilling its payment obligations. The lawsuit, filed in California Superior Court, is part of a broader wave of legal actions against Musk by former Twitter executives. In March, four ex-executives sued Musk for withholding more than $128 million in severance payments.
Before his tenure at Twitter, Kordestani was a key figure at Google.
Recently, Elon Musk filed a new lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, re-opening a legal battle over artificial intelligence (AI). Musk, who co-founded OpenAI in 2015, initially sued the company in February, accusing it of abandoning its nonprofit mission by reserving advanced AI technology for private customers. He dropped the lawsuit in June after OpenAI published old emails from Musk related to the company's creation.
