Naif Al Rajhi Investment Acquires Strategic Stake in Mawdoo3
The acquisition is part of the former's strategy to expand into sectors such as artificial intelligence and Arabic content and data.
Saudi Arabia-headquartered Naif AlRajhi Investment (NRI) has acquired a strategic, undisclosed stake in Jordan-based Mawdoo3, a company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs), especially Arabic models. The acquisition is part of NRI's strategy to expand into sectors such as AI and Arabic content and data.
Mawdoo3 plans to use the investment to support its growth and digital transformation, particularly in Saudi Arabia, where the company aims to expand its services and explore new growth opportunities.
Founded by Mohammad Jaber and Rami Alqawasmi in 2010, Mawdoo3 operates over 200 Arabic-language websites, including Mawdoo3.com, an Arabic online content platform that provides articles and resources on topics such as health, education, technology, and lifestyle for Arabic-speaking users, and WebTeb.com, a health and wellness platform in the Arab world, which offers medically reviewed content on various health topics.
Both platforms feature more than one million expert-written articles.
Mawdoo3 has invested in AI tools, including Qalam.ai, a generative AI model tailored for Arabic, and Salma.ai, a virtual financial assistant. The company launched its own natural language processing (NLP) toolkit in 2018 and has since developed AI solutions for several industries, including government collaborations.
Mawdoo3’s Waraqa.com platform enhances its AI models with high-quality, verified data, which improves Arabic-language AI applications. Its Alweb.com platform offers content management and search engine optimization (SEO) solutions to regional websites.
Naif Saleh Al Rajhi, chairman and CEO of NRI, stated in a LinkedIn post, "This acquisition aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 and marks our entry into the tech and AI sectors. We are excited to partner with Mawdoo3, a regional leader in digital content and AI."
Rami Alqawasmi, co-founder and CEO of Mawdoo3, added, "We are thrilled about this partnership with NRI. It will help us expand our offerings, drive regional digital transformation, and grow from Saudi Arabia to the global market."
