Bezos Earth Fund Commits $100 Million to AI Climate Solution
This initiative aims to support AI technology to tackle the pressing issues of climate change.
The Bezos Earth Fund has announced a commitment of up to $100 million in grants for the AI for Climate and Nature Grand Challenge.[1]
This initiative aims to support AI technology to tackle issues of climate change and nature loss by fostering collaboration between environmental organizations and leading AI technology providers.
Applications for the Grand Challenge will open in May 2024, inviting proposals from practitioners, researchers, and innovators across various sectors. The challenge consists of several rounds. The first round of the challenge will focus on sustainable proteins, biodiversity conservation, and power grid optimization, with a special "Wild Card" category for powerful ideas outside the previous three categories.
Subsequent rounds will tackle other technology and environmental topics.
Each round has two funding phases. Initially, up to 30 seed grants will be awarded to AI ideas addressing the focus areas. Awardees will be announced at a Bezos Earth Fund-TED event during Climate Week NYC in late September.
In the subsequent funding phase, these recipients will have the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $2 million to further develop their solutions, receiving mentorship and support from technology leaders.
