UAE-based artificial intelligence (AI) company G42 has partnered with US chipmaker Nvidia to develop AI solutions aimed at improving global weather forecasting. The collaboration will include establishing a climate tech lab and operational base in Abu Dhabi, according to a statement by G42.[1]

The partnership comes as UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is set to visit the White House this week, where he will discuss regional security, advanced technology, and AI development with US President Joe Biden.

The UAE, led by government-backed G42, is heavily investing in AI to diversify its economy beyond oil. In April, Microsoft announced a $1.5 billion investment in G42, and the two companies plan to open two AI centers in Abu Dhabi. Additionally, Abu Dhabi-based investment firm MGX is joining a $30 billion fund with BlackRock and Microsoft to invest in AI infrastructure.

During his visit, Sheikh Mohammed is also scheduled to meet with Vice President Kamala Harris and business executives.

Earlier this month, Microsoft Corp. and G42 announced two new initiatives to advance responsible AI practices, building on their partnership established earlier this year. The initiatives include creating two new centers in Abu Dhabi that aim to promote responsible AI use and support societal goals.

Also, G42 announced the upcoming launch of NANDA, a Hindi Large Language Model (LLM), at the UAE-India Business Forum in Mumbai. NANDA, a 13-billion parameter model, has been trained on approximately 2.13 trillion tokens, including Hindi language datasets.

In May, Core42, a G42 company specializing in full-spectrum artificial intelligence (AI) enablement, introduced JAIS Chat.

JAIS Chat is a bilingual tool in both English and Arabic. Its design comprehends various Arabic dialects and also navigates cultural nuances.
