Meta has partnered with Startupbootcamp MENA to support the startup ecosystem in the MENA region. Through the Llama Design Drive program, they aim to provide local startups with AI technologies tailored to the region's needs.

Llama Design Drive will include three four-week sprints in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. These sprints will feature workshops and mentorship sessions designed to build capacity and support startups.

The program has formed partnerships with industry leaders such as UAE’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Chalhoub Group, and Dubai Holding.

The initiative uses Meta's open-source large language model, Llama 3.1, enabling startups to develop products addressing challenges in sectors like mobility, aviation, energy distribution, retail, and real estate.

Startups in the program gain experience working with companies on practical challenges while utilizing Llama 3.1 to create solutions.

Participants in the program will also have the opportunity to be fast-tracked into a global initiative sponsored by Meta, with the potential to receive up to $500,000 for further product development.

Startupbootcamp is a global network of industry-focused accelerators that helps startups by offering direct access to a global network of mentors, partners, and investors.

The Middle East is expected to capture 2% of global AI benefits by 2030, with AI's contribution to GDP in the region projected to grow annually by 20-34%.

In June, Meta announced the launch of the Meta Llama Impact Innovation Awards, aimed at supporting organizations in Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey that leverage Meta's large language models, Llama 2 or Llama 3, to drive social impact with grants of up to $35,000.

The awards are part of Meta's broader commitment to helping developers foster breakthroughs, create innovative solutions, and contribute to technological and economic growth.
