KSA Launches Taqatech Accelerator To Support Energy Startups
The accelerator focuses on supporting ventures that contribute to economic diversification, local content development, and the localization of technology.

The Ministry of Energy has launched the Taqatech Accelerator program in collaboration with Saudi tech incubator The Garage to support entrepreneurs and startups in the energy sector. The announcement was made in the presence of HE Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Energy, and HE Abdullah Amer Al-Swaha, the country’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology.
The Garage was launched in September 2023 through a collaboration between Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), and the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones. Located within the KACST campus, The Garage is a repurposed 28,000-square-meter parking structure that now houses more than 300 startups. Its facilities include 24 meeting rooms, an event space with a capacity of over 1,000 people, and dedicated workshop areas.
The initiative is part of the Ministry of Energy’s efforts to encourage innovation, promote economic growth, improve environmental sustainability, and create job opportunities. It focuses on supporting ventures that contribute to economic diversification, local content development, and the localization of technology.
Developed in coordination with energy companies, universities, and research centers, the Taqatech Accelerator is designed to strengthen collaboration between startups, entrepreneurs, and government bodies. It provides mentorship in technical and technological areas and facilitates connections with investors to help private sector-led development within the energy field.
The program targets startups working on energy efficiency, cost reduction, local content, and economic diversification through the development of local energy solutions. It also supports projects that contribute to Saudi Arabia’s role in global energy markets and the advancement of emerging energy technologies.
In addition, the accelerator includes startups focused on reducing emissions, advancing clean energy and sustainability, and improving energy security and supply reliability through infrastructure and supply chain improvements.
The program aims to support three cohorts of 20 startups each over three years, with activities divided into four phases, each lasting six to 12 months. The phases include exploration and selection, acceleration, pilot project implementation, and investment rounds.
