Future tech innovators met once again in Las Vegas, as the Consumer Electronics Show 2025 — organized by the US Consumer Technology Association (CTA) — kicked off on January 7. The show treated visitors to a smorgasbord of big innovations, head-scratching gadgets, and plenty of contraptions that made us wonder what "smart living" will mean in just a few years.

So far, CES has delivered plenty of excitement in the realms of laptops, gaming, TVs, and smart home technology — areas the show has always shone in. However, this year’s event also highlights some of the trendier, emerging categories and massive products from tech giants like Samsung, Acer, and Sony, alongside the countless smaller tech vendors eager to unveil their latest innovations that are starting to make a bigger impact, from smart home gadgets to gaming solutions, and even a robot sloth charm that hangs off purses and turns to look at people and objects around it, mimicking the body language of an infant. Its purpose? To “recreate people’s joyful experiences of noticing a human baby as he/she tries to interact with them,” says the company’s website.

The event highlights innovations across multiple industries, with some products set to hit the market this year and others still in prototype or pre-production. This year’s CES places artificial intelligence (AI) at the forefront, demonstrating its impact on autonomous vehicles, personal computers, smart homes, wearables, healthcare, and next-gen televisions. With the theme “Dive In to the Future,” the event underscores AI’s integration into everyday life.

Here’s what stood out from the crowd in each category:

7. BioLite Refrigerator Battery

BioLite Refrigerator BatteryOne of the gadgets to support smart homes is a backup battery solution by BioLite. This product is efficient for fridges or other appliances that need constant power. Instead of installing a large whole-home battery system, the BioLite battery is attached to a single appliance, making the product similar to a portable power station. With two battery units, it packs 3 kilowatt-hours of energy – enough to run a standard fridge for a couple of days.

8. Roborock Vacuum

Roborock Saros Z70

While robovacs have become increasingly commercialized, most still require human intervention to navigate around household clutter. The Roborock Saros Z70 solves this problem with a mechanical arm that can grab items and move them to a designated area. On its first pass, the Saros Z70 will perform its usual cleaning tasks while also identifying and marking objects it can pick up. It will return later to grab items like socks, tissues, and small towels during a second round of cleaning.

HEALTHCARE TECH

9. Withings’ Full-Body Mirror Scan

Withings’ Full-Body Mirror ScanFrench tech company Withings, known for its smart scales and watches, unveiled a futuristic prototype of a full body "health screening mirror." While still just a concept, this product gives a glimpse of how Withings plans to integrate its biometric devices into a more comprehensive health platform. The Withings Omnia smart mirror would theoretically track everything from heart rate and pH levels to muscle composition, sleep quality, and exercise recovery. Designed to work alongside other wearables like a smartwatch, it will pull together data from throughout your day to offer a holistic view of your health.

10. FlowBeams's Needle-free InjectionFlowbeam Needle-Free Injections

Dutch company FlowBeams is set to revolutionize injections with its BoldJet, a handheld device that fires ultra-fine streams of liquid — thinner than a human hair — into the skin, bypassing the outer layer with no pain, unlike traditional needles. By adjusting the jet velocity, the device ensures controlled delivery to the target skin layer, making injections more efficient. Also, the dosage is divided into multiple small, repeated injections, allowing for precise delivery and better control over the total volume. This new tech will enhance comfort for patients of all ages and potentially reduce medical waste.

11. Speediance’s Adjustable Gym

Speediance’s Adjustable GymThe Gym Monster 2 from Shenzhen-based Speediance features an all-in-one fitness tool designed to take the guesswork out of workouts. It has a touchable screen where weighted bars can be adjusted to the preferred resistance and provides other options for beginners like the "strength assessment" feature to automatically set the load for different lifts – much like having a personal trainer in your gym routine. The product also features visualized workout tutorials, advanced data insights, and versatile training modes.

12. Kirin’s Electric Salt Spoon

Kirin’s Electric Salt SpoonIf you’re aiming to reduce your sodium intake, a high-tech spoon might be the solution, according to Japanese beer company Kirin. Their Electric Salt Spoon uses electricity to enhance the sodium ion molecules, boosting the taste of salt and umami (the savory flavors found in mushrooms or miso). However, to activate the electric loop, you need to keep your fingers on a metal strip on the back of the spoon and hold it against your mouth for a few seconds before swallowing. A little extra effort for a big flavor punch!
