Apple Engages in AI Talks with Meta: WSJ
This announcement follows Apple's recent agreement with OpenAI.
Apple is in discussions with major rival Meta about integrating the Facebook parent company's generative AI into its products, as the tech giant works to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, the Wall Street Journal reported.[1]
This announcement follows Apple's recent agreement with OpenAI. Under this agreement, Siri will be able to access OpenAI’s ChatGPT in a major improvement, making suggestions or even generating content such as bedtime stories with images. This feature will be free for the users and will not require any account creation, thereby keeping the users' data private. Siri will also be enhanced in real-time statement correction as well as being more integrated with Apple operating systems.
Apple and OpenAI’s agreement was announced during Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, where Apple introduced its new updates.
They included Apple Intelligence, which is an AI system for Mac, iPhone, and iPad. This platform is expected to offer individualized and privacy-preserving functions, including contexts, notifications, writing and rewriting services, and image synthesis. Apple Intelligence should be able to execute multiple applications and leverage what cloud-based models provide while being secure about the users’ data.
In early June, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, mentioned the company's interest in integrating capabilities from Google's generative AI system, Gemini, into its devices.
Apple also introduced new features for AirPods: head motion detection for call control and voice isolation. New features of tvOS are improved audio, support for projectors, and additional screensaver options.
Apple released the Passwords app for different devices that combined password creation and added security that resembled 1Password.
