San Francisco-based technology firm Uber has reached an agreement to acquire Berlin-based Delivery Hero—"the world’s leading local delivery platform"—in a deal valued at US$14.8 billion.

The transaction, which is expected to close in the second half of 2027, will see Uber’s mobility and delivery platform—the largest in the world—extend to a total of 99 markets around the globe.

Uber previously owned approximately 24.77 percent of Delivery Hero's voting share capital and held an additional economic interest of around 11.74 percent through equity derivatives. The new deal will see Uber offer Delivery Hero shareholders EUR41.50 per share in cash.

In a statement, Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, said, “Delivery Hero’s talented team has built an extraordinary business, with beloved local brands and strong positions across some of the world’s fastest-growing delivery markets. By bringing our platforms together, Uber will extend affordable, reliable delivery to many millions more people in some of the world’s most dynamic economies, while creating more opportunities for merchants and couriers.”

Niklas Östberg, co-founder and CEO of Delivery Hero, added, “We are excited about this opportunity with Uber and the possibilities it offers for our employees, shareholders, and partners. Uber’s global mobility and delivery platform and our shared commitment to innovation make this the right partnership to build on Delivery Hero’s strengths in local food delivery and quick commerce, and to take our everyday app strategy further for our customers. I’m grateful to our people for building this company over 15 years, and we look forward to this great next chapter together.”

Under the agreement, Uber will acquire Delivery Hero's operations across 50 markets spanning Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and Latin America, which include platforms like talabat in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE, as well as HungerStation in Saudi Arabia.

Delivery Hero has also signed a separate agreement with New York-based investment firm SSW Partners, which will acquire Delivery Hero operations in 14 markets where its businesses overlap with Uber’s food delivery arm, Uber Eats. SSW Partners will thus acquire Delivery Hero's businesses in 14 overlapping markets across Europe, Latin America, and Türkiye, including foodora, efood, Glovo, PedidosYa, and Yemeksepeti.

The acquisition is expected to nearly double the number of markets where Uber operates its mobility and delivery services, growing from 34 to 58. Consumers are expected to gain access to a broader range of services, expanded memberships, and deeper integration between mobility and delivery. Merchants are expected to benefit from access to Uber's global user base, along with additional advertising, promotional, and commerce tools, while couriers and drivers are expected to see higher order volumes, improved network utilization, and more earning opportunities across both businesses.

Alongside the broader operational footprint, Uber has committed to maintain Delivery Hero's headquarters in Berlin and preserve its workforce there until at least 2029. The company also plans to invest EUR2 billion in Germany over the next five years to expand its local corporate operations, grow its nationwide business, and support autonomous vehicle deployments and partnerships with the German automotive industry.
