The UAE experienced a minor earthquake on Monday, January 8th, as confirmed by the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM).[1]

The seismic activity, registering at 2.8 magnitude, occurred at a depth of 3 kilometers in Masafi, a picturesque mountain village situated on the border of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.

A 2.8 Magnitude Earthquake on Richter scale is recorded in Masafi at 23:01, 08/01/2024 "UAE time” According to the NCM “National Seismic Network”. Slightly felt by residents and without any effect .

Fortunately, the NCM assured the public that the quake, although perceptible, had been felt "without any effect."
Although earthquakes are infrequent in the region, the UAE occasionally experiences tremors linked to seismic events in neighboring areas, notably those originating from Iran.
In June 2023, the UAE-Oman border witnessed another minor quake.
