The UAE experienced a minor earthquake on Monday, January 8th, as confirmed by the National Centre for Meteorology (NCM).[1]

The seismic activity, registering at 2.8 magnitude, occurred at a depth of 3 kilometers in Masafi, a picturesque mountain village situated on the border of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah.

The earthquake documented at precisely 11:03 pm, caused noticeable tremors that were felt by residents in the vicinity.

Fortunately, the NCM assured the public that the quake, although perceptible, had been felt "without any effect."

Although earthquakes are infrequent in the region, the UAE occasionally experiences tremors linked to seismic events in neighboring areas, notably those originating from Iran.

In June 2023, the UAE-Oman border witnessed another minor quake.
