Huawei Launches MENA's First Public Cloud in Egypt
The new cloud platform will serve 28 African countries, including Egypt, Ethiopia, and Algeria, promoting digital transformation across the region.
Huawei Cloud has launched its Cairo Region, marking the debut of public cloud services in Egypt and the broader MENA region, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.[1]
The announcement took place at the Huawei Cloud Summit Egypt 2024 in Cairo, with Egypt’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Amr Talaat, in attendance.
The Cairo Region is Huawei’s 33rd cloud region worldwide, each representing a physical location with Huawei-deployed data centers to deliver cloud services.
This launch coincides with the recent opening of Egypt's first government data and cloud computing center on Ain Sokhna Road.
The Cairo Region aims to provide innovative, secure, and flexible cloud services to individuals, corporate, and government users, enhancing Egypt’s digital infrastructure. Services include the DataArts data governance pipeline, the GaussDB database, and the ModelArts AI development pipeline.
The new cloud platform will serve 28 African countries, including Egypt, Ethiopia, and Algeria, promoting digital transformation across the region.
During the event, Huawei Cloud also unveiled a new Arabic large language model (LLM) to support regional companies in their digital transformation efforts. This model features a 96% accuracy rate in automatic speech recognition across over 20 Arabic-speaking countries and is the first 100-billion AI-powered parameter Arabic LLM.
