OpenAI Introduces GPT-4o
GPT-4o is available to all including unpaid users.
OpenAI unveiled its latest innovation in artificial intelligence (AI), introducing the world to GPT-4o just one year after GPT-4's introduction. GPT-4o is available to all, including unpaid users.[1]
By integrating real-time, spoken conversations, the model transforms ChatGPT into a digital personal assistant. Notably multimodal functionality, interpreting text, images, and even "vision," enabling discussions on screenshots, photos, and documents.
The model's memory capabilities enable it to learn from past interactions and perform real-time translations.
The announcement precedes Google's anticipated reveal of updates to its Gemini AI model at the annual I/O developer conference.
On May 13th, OpenAI conducted a webcast to unveil the new version of their ChatGPT software, that looks and behaves similarly to the AI in Spike Jonze's 2013 film Her.
Mark Chen, an OpenAI researcher, revealed the new model's outstanding conversational capabilities during a live demo. He told the chatbot that he was apprehensive about the demo and asked for her advise on how to calm down. Chen then simulated hyperventilation into his phone, to which the software replied, "Mark! "You are not a vacuum cleaner." The AI was spontaneous and hilarious, similar to the voice assistant (played by Scarlett Johansson) in Her, which has become a benchmark for those creating consumer AI.
In April, OpenAI introduced a new voice-cloning tool. It comes with a caveat: strict controls will be enforced until safeguards are established to mitigate the risks of audio manipulation aimed at deceiving listeners.
