OpenAI has also announced a partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), a non-profit organization based in New York. As part of this collaboration, OpenAI has pledged $250,000 to support the IRC's initiatives in crisis-affected regions, particularly in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.[2]
The allocated funds will be utilized to develop an education-focused chatbot named aprendIA, designed to assist educators working in crisis zones. Currently undergoing pilot testing in locations such as Bangladesh and Nigeria, aprendIA aims to provide tailored educational resources to meet the unique needs of children affected by humanitarian crises.
According to the IRC, an estimated 224 million school-aged and pre-school-aged children worldwide are impacted by humanitarian emergencies.
Through aprendIA, educators will gain access to interactive and personalized teaching content that can be adapted to different humanitarian settings. IRC plans to expand the reach of these chatbots by making them accessible on low-tech devices and integrating them into popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, catering to diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
