Egypt-born Khazna entered the fintech domain with what co-founder and CEO Omar Saleh describes as “a unique credit-led profitable model.” The company then made history by receiving the Central Bank of Egypt’s first prepaid card license, and it has since made inroads into Saudi Arabia as well.

“Khazna is building the ‘workforce neobank’ of the Middle East starting in Egypt and Saudi Arabia,” Saleh says. “It offers the underserved workforce segment a credit-led suite of financial services using a secure, user-friendly digital platform to bring essential financial services to those who need them most. Our vision is to improve lives by extending world-class financial services to all.”

The company has certainly made strides in achieving its ambitions. In February 2025, it secured US$16 million in a pre-Series B funding round from a mix of new and existing investors from the region and beyond, which included names like the SANAD Fund for MSME, anb Seed Fund, Aljazira Capital, Khwarizmi Ventures, Nclude, ICU Ventures, Quona, Speedinvest, and Disruptech Ventures.

The influx of capital has helped Khazna expand into Saudi Arabia as well. “At Khazna, we have prioritized the Saudi Arabian market, and we have earmarked sizable investments there,” Saleh shares. “We believe that any company that has prioritized this market and has progressed on the licensing side with the Saudi Central Bank has significant potential to be among the leaders across the region.”

But while the company has begun its journey in the MENA region, Khazna’s ambitions go well beyond its borders. As Saleh declares, “We hope to provide tens of millions of workforce and their families across the region and around the world with secure, seamless and user-centric financial services that address the users’ key needs through a fully digital experience.”

Founder To Founder: Khazna Co-Founder And CEO Omar Saleh On Why Money20/20 Middle East Matters For Fintech Startups

“Driven by Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia has become the center of attention globally. And as a key pillar of the vision, the fintech market in Saudi has emerged to be one of the most attractive ones globally. Money20/20 is the world’s leading fintech event, and we have been attending the Europe version for the last few years. As Khazna is focused on the Saudi market, it was only organic for us to participate and showcase at the event that we expect to be the gateway of the global fintech industry into the Middle East region.”
