UAE's TII Launches Falcon 2 AI Models
Licensed under the TII Falcon License 2.0, these models uphold responsible AI usage policies.
The Technology Innovation Institute (TII) has unveiled the latest project of its large language model (LLM) series, Falcon 2, with two versions: Falcon 2 11B, an efficient LLM with 11 billion parameters trained on 5.5 trillion tokens, and Falcon 2 11B VLM, featuring vision-to-language capabilities.[1]
Falcon 2 11B VLM stands out as TII’s first multimodal model, boasting image-to-text conversion capabilities. Tested against competitors, including Meta’s newly launched Llama 3, Falcon 2 11B surpasses the performance of the former while matching Google’s Gemma 7B.
Both Falcon 2 11B models are open-source, providing developers worldwide with unrestricted access to AI technology. TII plans to broaden the Falcon 2 series, incorporating advanced machine learning capabilities such as 'Mixture of Experts' (MoE) to elevate performance.

Multilingual Falcon 2 11B models may operate in English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and a few more languages, increasing their adaptability and enhancing their performance in a range of situations. Falcon 2 11B VLM is a two-vision-to-language model that can recognize and understand images and visuals from the surrounding environment.
This model has several applications in the legal, healthcare, finance, and e-commerce sectors, among other fields. These uses include helping those who are visually impaired as well as document management, digital archiving, and context indexing.
Furthermore, these models can run on just one graphics processing unit (GPU).
Last year, Core42, a G42 company, announced the launch of Jais 30B – a bilingual Large Language Model (LLM) which has the potential to improve Arabic verbosity by 160% and English by 233%.
