Musk's X Allows Adult Content in New Policy Update
This comes as regulators worldwide pressure platforms to protect youngers from accessing inappropriate content online.
The social media platform X says it will now formally allow people to show consensual adult content, as long as it is clearly labeled as such. The move makes official a policy already in place when the platform was known as Twitter before billionaire Elon Musk purchased it in 2022.

The announcement came among new policies to formalize what can be viewed on the platform.
This comes as regulators worldwide pressure platforms to protect younger people from accessing inappropriate content online.
Previously, X which was formerly Twitter had nothing against posting explicit content by its subscribers.
Users posting adult content, including nudity and implied or explicit sexual acts, have been asked to adjust media settings for a “Content Warning”. Users either below 18 years of age or those without birthdates in their profiles will not see this kind of content.
"You may share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior, provided it's properly labeled and not prominently displayed," the new policy announced in May 2024 reads.
"We also prohibit content promoting exploitation, nonconsent, objectification, sexualization or harm to minors, and obscene behaviors. We also do not allow sharing Adult Content in highly visible places such as profile photos or banners," states X policy.
According to X, if people don’t respect other users’ privacy while posting pornographic materials, then X will adjust account settings for users.
Similar rules apply when it comes to violent speech or graphic media, including instances where such actions threaten, incite, glorify, stimulate, or encourage violence causing harm.
In April, Musk said that he is seriously considering imposing an undisclosed amount of fees on new users in exchange for allowing them to publish content and interact with others’ posts.
