Anthropic Releases Claude AI App for Android
The Claude Android app functions similarly to the iOS version released in May.
Anthropic launched its Claude Android app aiming to expand its AI chatbot's reach to more users. This release is part of Anthropic’s strategy to compete with ChatGPT by making Claude more accessible.[1]
The Claude Android app functions similarly to the iOS version released in May, offering free access to Anthropic’s advanced AI model, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, along with additional features available through Pro and Team subscriptions. Users can sync conversations across devices, upload photos or files for real-time image analysis, and use real-time language translation. The app allows enterprise customers to access their Claude accounts on mobile devices.
Despite Anthropic's claims that its AI models are comparable to those from OpenAI and Google, the startup has faced challenges in attracting a large user base. The Claude iOS app experienced a modest reception, with 157,000 global downloads in its first week, compared to the ChatGPT iOS app’s 480,000 installs in its first five days.
The Claude Android app offers users multi-platform support, enabling them to continue web, iOS, and Android conversations. It includes real-time image analysis by taking new pictures or uploading files, real-time language translation for communication and translation needs, and advanced reasoning to assist with tasks such as contract analysis and market research.
Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI research executives and employees, has raised a total of approximately $7.3 billion across five funding rounds.
In April, Amazon committed $2.75 billion to Anthropic.
