Egypt's New Delta Irrigation Water Treatment Plant has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records (GWR) as the world's largest water treatment facility. This plant, constructed by a joint venture of Orascom Construction, Hassan Allam Construction, Arab Contractors, and Metito under the mandate of the Ministry of Defence - Armed Forces Engineering Authority, has achieved four global records. These records include the world's largest water treatment facility, the most capacious and operationally robust water treatment plant, the largest area for epoxy coating in structures, and the biggest sludge treatment plant globally.[1]
The achievements were celebrated in a ceremony attended by representatives from the joint venture companies, including Hassan Allam Construction, Arab Contractors, Orascom Construction, and Metito.
The New Delta plant boasts a remarkable production capacity of 7.5 million cubic meters per day of agricultural drainage water, which plays a role in reclaiming and developing 2 million feddans in the western Delta region. Spanning an area of over 320,000 square meters, the plant operates at a capacity of 86.8 cubic meters per second and has a sludge treatment capability of 670.01 kilograms per second.
Completed in a record-setting 24 months, the plant is a pivotal component of Egypt's national water resources plan, aimed at ensuring water security.
