As esports and gaming balloon to a multi-billion dollar industry, data integrity has become paramount to its success. Based in Berlin with partnerships that span the globe, Bayes Esports is a leader in esports data and a key player at the heart of the esports ecosystem. The company was also selected to be the official data supplier to Saudi Arabia’s Esports World Cup, which launched its inaugural edition in July.

“Data integrity is firstly about protecting the integrity of the match itself. A lot of what makes an esports match interesting is that the players cannot see every data point. If they could, they would have an advantage over their opponent,” Martin Dachselt, co-CEO and Managing Director of Bayes Esports, tells Inc. Arabia.

Bayes Esports guarantees the accuracy and reliability of all tournament data, including official live data, services, and products for esports, and provides match outcomes, player metrics, and performance analytics. Through its platform, Bayes Esports sets the gold standard for match data use.

"By unifying esports data, we have become a central hub and made it easier for many use cases, including media, service providers, analytics companies, and community partners to access esports data,” says Amir Mirzaee, co-CEO and Managing Director of Bayes Esports.

Dachselt tells Inc. Arabia that by controlling who has access to the data and implementing delays when necessary, among other technical and legal measures, data providers can help ensure integrity, transparency, and fair play in esports. Bayes Esports also monitors for irregularities that could undermine the authenticity of the games and leverages advanced analytics to promote fair play.

Data, Mirzaee tells us, is also key to fan engagement. Esports games become more interesting through data points, visuals, and statistics that give fans the full breadth of the sport. “Data plays an essential role in fan engagement in any sport and esports is no different. Imagine Formula 1 without the head camera, fastest lap, and replays, which are all generated by data. Neither fans nor teams would be able to grasp the full breadth of the sport. The more data points, visuals, or statistics to follow, the more interesting each esports match can be,” he says.

Examples of tools driving fan engagement are Bayes Esports’ community-oriented offerings like Google Onebox’s customized statistics API and the League of Legends Data Portal pioneered together with Riot Games.

Mirzaee points to Saudi Arabia’s Esports World Cup as a turning point for a region that aims to become a hub for the industry, putting the kingdom on the map for esports and gaming competitions. “Saudi Arabia has entered the global stage when it comes to esports. Alongside the IP rights for the EWC, the country has just been selected to host the first-ever Esports Olympics in 2025--something that has never been done before in the industry,” says Mirzaee.

In addition to the Esports World Cup, Bayes Esports holds exclusive data partnerships with major entities like ESL FACEIT Group (EFG), BLAST Premier, and other prominent tournament organizers, solidifying its role as the leading content ecosystem of official esports data, covering the majority of top-tier CS2 and Dota 2 tournaments.

Deep Roots

With roots dating back nearly a decade, Bayes Esports (formerly DOJO Madness), transitioned from consumer products to B2B services in 2019. Bayes Esports has long been a pioneer in delivering official esports data and premium services, notably securing the first-of-its-kind data distribution partnership with Riot Games, which helped facilitate the development of Riot Games' first data technology stack.

The introduction of the League of Legends Esports Data Portal marked a milestone, offering exclusive data to global esports communities and professional teams, Mirzaee tells us. By curating extensive esports content and developing a comprehensive product suite, Bayes Esports has established a dominant market presence and a broad distribution network.

“The advantage of esports integrity is that every human interaction is traceable because it is completely digital, and can be backtracked or benchmarked. This includes cheating players or the ecosystem around them. Making that data available for interpretation and analysis is key,” says Mirzaee.

Dachselt explains that, compared to traditional sports, ensuring data integrity in esports is far more complex. “In traditional sports, data can be collected from someone simply watching the game in the stadium. In esports, action is happening at every corner of a map and it is impossible to collect everything in a timely fashion simply by watching on screen. This is why automated and sanctioned data collection is absolutely necessary,” he tells us.

Dachselt notes that constant updates to esports in-game patches and metadata changes differ significantly from traditional sports, where changes are infrequent and slow to process. Without data integrity, the sweeping changes in esports can affect the games' integrity.

He adds that, when IP rights holders like tournament organizers or data providers don’t have official data, that information doesn’t have an easily trackable watermark, making it easy for black markets to flourish.

Looking ahead, Mirzaee sees data integrity and unification playing a pivotal role in advancing a more sustainable esports ecosystem. Official data partnerships can also create additional revenue streams for organizers, which can then be funneled back into developing the global esports infrastructure.

By promoting fair play and ensuring the integrity of the games, esports data can drive the industry’s growth and build a commercially sustainable infrastructure.

Bayes Esports is working on launching regional services in collaboration with game publishers and other players in the esports ecosystem to help them build world-class digital fan engagement. The team travels to Riyadh nearly every month to drive local progress and is optimistic about the strategic direction Saudi Arabia is currently taking.
