As a researcher at TACTICAAI, a full-fledged data and artificial intelligence (AI) platform that came into being in 2026 within the Earth Observation labs of the Abu Dhabi-based Technology Innovation Institute, Sultan Abughazal is helping to pioneer sovereign, AI-driven geospatial capabilities to strengthen national resilience and enhance decision-making.

“Across the MENA region, governments and critical infrastructure operators face a common challenge: making fast, well-informed decisions in environments where risks evolve faster than traditional systems can track,” Abughazal explains. “Our AI-driven geospatial intelligence platform directly addresses this by transforming vast, fragmented data sources into a single, actionable picture that supports prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery. The platform fuses massive volumes of earth observation data, sensor feeds, maritime information, and security related signals—data that would be impossible for analysts to process manually. Our sovereign AI models automate the detection of patterns, anomalies, and emerging threats, enabling stakeholders to act with speed and confidence. By leveraging national talent, local resources, and fully sovereign capabilities, the solution ensures strategic independence, while delivering rapid, high-accuracy insights. Whether it’s monitoring borders, securing coastlines, responding to natural hazards, or protecting critical assets, our system empowers decision makers with the clarity and timeliness needed to act decisively across all phases of the risk cycle.”

Given his vantage point at TACTICAAI, Abughazal believes that geospatial intelligence in the MENA region is entering a whole new phase, with AI set to enable faster, more accurate, and predictive insights. “With regional AI adoption expected to contribute up to US$320 billion to Middle Eastern economies by 2030, driving major gains in productivity and efficiency, the future is defined by sovereign capabilities, advanced earth observation analytics, and automated decision-making,” he predicts. “As geospatial AI evolves, powered by high resolution satellite data, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technologies, and deep learning, it will enhance disaster prediction, environmental monitoring, and climate resilience, directly improving safety and quality of life across the region.”

At the same time, with governments across the region building infrastructure and talent to lead globally in AI, with investments in everything from data centers to national AI ecosystems, Abughazal says that the road ahead promises smarter cities, more resilient economies, and a higher standard of living fueled by real-time geospatial intelligence. And it is within this broader shift that TACTICAAI is positioning itself as a key enabler. “By building solutions that merge cutting-edge earth observation, multimodal AI, and regional talent, we’re proving that world class technology can be created in the MENA region, for the MENA region,” Abughazal concludes.
