The UAE's Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office has introduced the UAE Charter for the Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), aimed at realizing the goals of the UAE Strategy for AI.[1]

The Charter aims to create an environment with strict safety and privacy standards to build public trust in AI applications.

Key principles of the Charter include promoting safety, fairness, and inclusivity in AI development, improving human-machine interactions, and ensuring equal access to AI technologies across society. It also emphasizes compliance with applicable laws to guide the ethical and lawful deployment of AI advancements.

Earlier this month, The Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) launched the Dubai Customs AI Platform, aimed at boosting innovation and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This platform allows developers to build AI-powered systems and programs.

In January, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, issued a law establishing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC).

The AIATC is mandated to spearhead the development and execution of policies and strategies in the realms of research, infrastructure, and investments concerning AI and advanced technology in Abu Dhabi.

This aligns with Abu Dhabi's strategy to position itself as a global hub for investments, partnerships, and talent acquisition in the tech sector.
