The Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IBM during the third Global AI Summit. The MoU outlines the establishment of a specialized center of excellence for developing generative artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

This center will focus on creating innovative applications tailored to government needs, adhering to global standards and governance frameworks.

Additionally, the partnership introduces the ALLaM Challenge, aimed at developing and enhancing large language models (LLM) in Arabic using the ALLaM model. The challenge is designed to stimulate innovation and discover new solutions in Arabic AI.

The collaboration aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, supporting the creation of a knowledge-based society and reinforcing the kingdom's position as a global hub for advanced technologies. SDAIA and IBM will host ALLaM on the IBM Watsonx platform and the Saudi government cloud "DEEM," offering advanced services and fostering technological advancement in the region.

The partnership will also focus on establishing a center of excellence for generative AI technologies and launching the ALLaM Challenge to uncover exceptional AI talent and expertise.

The artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to contribute 12% to Saudi Arabia’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030, Saudi Authority for Data and Artificial Intelligence (SDAIA) said in its latest '𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶 𝗔𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗮' report in advance of this week's Global AI Summit.

The Saudi Arabian government announced previously an initiative to boost its artificial intelligence sector with a proposed $40 billion investment fund.
