Mohammad AbuSheikh, the co-founder and CEO of CNTXT AI, an Abu Dhabi-based startup helping enterprises and governments transform raw data into secure, sovereign, artificial intelligence (AI)-ready systems, says that if there’s one contribution he’s made to the field he operates in, it’s in shifting the conversation from importing innovation to creating it.

“CNTXT AI tackles AI adoption barriers specific to the Middle East, particularly those arising from data quality, language/linguistic complexity, and sovereign compliance constraints: Arabic language performance gaps, data sophistication, and trust,” AbuSheikh explains. “CNTXT AI’s innovation is to build sovereign-ready, region-specific AI foundations, rather than off-the-shelf models that underperform in the GCC.”

Besides providing its customers with Arabic-native data structuring services and custom AI solutions, CNTXT AI has also built its own AI product lab, where it has built proprietary technologies such as Munsit, its Arabic voice tech model, and TestAI, its suite for benchmarking and validating AI models before launch.

“What we’ve focused on at CNTXT AI is not just deploying models, but building the foundations for sovereign, production-grade AI in the GCC,” AbuSheikh adds. “That means investing in data readiness, Arabic language intelligence, AI validation frameworks, and enterprise-grade infrastructure that allows governments and businesses to adopt AI with confidence.”

For AbuSheikh and his team, this is the most exciting part of working at CNTXT AI—the opportunity to redefine global AI from a non-Western perspective, where Arabic language and regional context are first-class elements. “The region doesn’t need to simply consume AI built elsewhere,” AbuSheikh points out. “It has the capital, the talent, and the ambition to build its own.”
