UAE President Addresses G7 Summit on AI, Energy

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan participated in the G7 Summit session on artificial intelligence (AI) and energy, themed “Energy and Artificial Intelligence / Africa and the Mediterranean Region,” hosted by Italy. The session was opened by Her Excellency Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy.[1]

In his speech, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed highlighted the significant challenges facing the world, particularly in the Middle East and Africa, especially within the energy sector. He stressed the importance of collective action and cooperation in using emerging technologies, such as AI, to develop sustainable energy solutions.
His Highness affirmed the UAE's commitment to establishing an integrated AI system through programs, legislation, initiatives, and partnerships. He emphasized that these efforts aim to enhance energy sustainability, ensure energy security, and achieve sustainable economic and social development. This approach aligns with the UAE Consensus, which serves as a successful model for international cooperation.
The session also featured a video presentation showcasing the UAE's ambitious vision and achievements in AI and sustainable energy. Contributions from experts and officials, including His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, and His Excellency Faisal Al Bannai, Advisor to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs, were highlighted.
In March, The Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC), established earlier this year by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, announced the creation of MGX, a technology investment company aimed at propelling technologies for the benefit of current and future generations.
Recently, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation, declared that the AI Retreat will become an annual event in Dubai. The next retreat is scheduled for April 29, 2025.
