Meta Platforms is set to announce a new feature for its AI chatbot, allowing users to select voices from actors such as Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, John Cena, Awkwafina, and Keegan-Michael Key, Reuters reported citing unnamed sources in the know.[1] This aims to enhance user interaction with the Meta AI chatbot, similar to ChatGPT.

The announcement is expected at Meta's annual Connect conference, which begins on September 25th. Alongside the introduction of celebrity voices, the company will also unveil the first version of its augmented-reality glasses and discuss its roadmap for other hardware devices, including the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which previously featured the Meta AI chatbot's audio.

The new audio feature will roll out in the US and other English-speaking markets across Meta's family of apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. This comes as Meta seeks to expand its generative AI offerings, competing with Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Alphabet's Google in the technology space.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently shared a promotional video featuring John Cena on Instagram, showcasing various stunts while wearing the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.

While OpenAI introduced a similar audio feature for its chatbot in May, it faced controversy when Scarlett Johansson claimed the voice produced was reminiscent of hers, despite her refusal to participate.

Currently, Meta's assistant can engage in text chats and generate images based on user prompts, reflecting the company's ongoing efforts to enhance its AI capabilities and user experience.
